Ruth Hauswirth

Special Counsel and Head of Litigation & eDiscovery, Cooley

Ruth C. Hauswirth oversees Cooley’s eDiscovery and information retention/governance counseling practice. Ruth leads Cooley's Litigation and eDiscovery Services department, which focuses on providing the strategic and efficient use of legal technology solutions to handle electronically stored information in complex litigation matters—including evidence preservation, collection, review, and production through trial. Ruth also advises clients on enterprise information retention, disposition, and governance, including policy development, implementation, and compliance in a variety of regulatory and jurisdictional areas. Ruth is a frequent speaker on topics related to eDiscovery, information governance, the intersection of law and technology, as well as well-being, mindfulness, and compassion in legal practice.

Ruth is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of San Diego School of Law teaching Electronic Discovery Law. From 1999-2000, Ruth served as the Assistant Dean for Law and Technology at Santa Clara University School of Law and in 2000, she was named one of the Bay Area's Top Lawyers Under Forty by the San Francisco Daily Journal. Ruth is a member of the State Bar of California and received a J.D. summa cum laude in 1994 from Santa Clara University School of Law. Ruth is a trained mindfulness facilitator through UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and currently co-chairs the Life & Law Committee of the Lawyers Club of San Diego.
