C. Matthew Haynes is Associate General Counsel at WestRock Company, the second-largest manufacturer and supplier of paper-based packaging products in the United States. WestRock Company is publicly traded, posting $21.3 billion in FY 2022 annual revenue driven by its more than 300 facilities and 50,000 employees across 30 countries. With over six years of experience at WestRock, Mr. Haynes is responsible for leading the U.S. Commercial Litigation Team and chairs its eDiscovery, Digital Forensics and Legal Data Management Center of Excellence.
 
Under his leadership, the Commercial Litigation Team handles a diverse range of legal topics, including contracts, property, tax, products liability, bankruptcy, collections, software licensing, intellectual property, construction, and class actions. Additionally, Mr. Haynes chairs the EDFL Center of Excellence, which provides cross-functional eDiscovery and digital forensics expertise to WestRock's enterprise while developing and maintaining best-practices process playbooks for legal holds, eDiscovery, conflicts, audit reviews, and digital forensics.
 
Outside of his work at WestRock, Mr. Haynes chairs the University of Richmond School of Law Alumni Board and is an Adjunct Professor at VCU, where he teaches a course entitled 'The Legal Environment of Business.' 
 
Before joining WestRock, Mr. Haynes worked as a partner at the law firm LeClairRyan in Washington, DC, where he practiced commercial and corporate governance litigation. In 2016, he was named to Benchmark Litigation's 40 and Under Hot List, recognizing the nation's most accomplished legal partners aged 40 or under. Mr. Haynes graduated from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2009 and is married with two young children that occupy all of his free time.
